Amazon is getting into the search arena by opening up Alexa to software developers for customized searches. Up until now Alexa has provided web traffic stats for sites, but the new service will let developers “create new search services without having to invest millions of dollars in crawl, storage, processing, search, and server technology,?? according to a statement by San Francisco-based Alexa Internet. They’ll be charging $1 for each CPU hour, gigabyte of storage, gigabyte of data uploaded, and 50 gigabytes of data processed.
