Conversion Wednesday – Take a Leap with Mountain Lion

By Dan G

Happy Leap Day Everyone! As many of you might know, the folks at Apple recently reported that they are releasing its next version of the “OSX” Operating System this Summer, named “Mountain Lion”, and it looks like they might have a few more tricks up their sleeve.

So what could they possibly change about their operating system to make yet another “Leap” in the OS world you might ask? Let’s walkthrough the big changes and see if any of them catch your eye.

I think if I had to choose one word to describe Mountain Lion’s changes it would have to be “Integration”. OSX Mountain Lion takes integration one step further than its predecessor by refining the OS’s use of the Apple’s “iCloud” to sync up several apps across all of your apple devices, making going from your mac to your iPhone or iPad even more seamless. iCloud will now keep your mail, calendars, contacts, documents, and notes, etc.. up to date on every device you use. In one instance, this means that you’ll be able to keep an instant messaging conversation going when you’re on the run through their messages app. You’ll be able to start the conversation on your iPad or Mac and continue the conversation on your iPhone or iPod!

For those of you that try keep notes and todo lists for yourself. Apple has upgraded two of its solutions for you.

Nothing should slip your mind now with Apple’s “Notes” & “Reminders” App Integrations (available on all of their devices)

Notes in OS X Mountain Lion makes it even easier to just Jot stuff down. There is now added support for photo and file attachments. You can add, delete, and flip through your notes or do a quick search, and using the Share button you can send your notes to friends or colleagues that have the Apple Mail or Messages Apps. And of course, everything you jot down automatically updates on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac.

Then if you’re more of a list-minded individual, the “Reminders” App lets you keep as many lists as you need and easily add to them from any apple device. You can set due dates to get alerts as deadlines approach. Check items off your list items as you go and keep track of what you’ve completed. And just in case you forget something on your shopping list, your spouse can now update your list from their apple device to make sure you don’t forget anything!

And Last, but certainly not least, is my favorite upgrade, “Airplay Mirroring”.

With AirPlay Mirroring, you can now stream whatever is on your Mac to your HDTV via an Apple TV device. No wires or cables need apply. This works directly over WiFi Network!! With this technology, you can now show web pages, videos, images or anything on your desktop to friends in your living room or colleagues in the board room. You could share lessons with a classroom or make presentations to a conference room. This upgrade brings a whole world of change to the words “check this out”.
