As a search engine marketer, Google and Yahoo are always on the top of my priority list. Why? It’s simple. More people search Google and Yahoo than any other search engine in the United States. MSN.com is a respectable third, but Bill Gates thinks that will change.
MSN’s search engine is at least several years behind Google, and in my estimation, a year behind Yahoo. That said, I do agree with Bill Gates that search has a long way to go (see the ABC News article), and it is no where close to being as good as it needs to be.
At this point, I think it would be a big mistake to underestimate Microsoft and its MSN search engine. Microsoft has a history of slow starts, but eventually they get their act together, and typically crush their competition (R.I.P. Netscape and countless other companies). Google won’t be an easy bug to crush, but Microsoft will give them a run for their money.
