Massachusetts and Microsoft, Together Again

By Exclusive Concepts Blog Team

In September Massachusetts announced its intention to adopt an open document format to replace Microsoft Office. But last Wednesday Mass. Governor Mitt Romney issued a statement reversing the state’s position in light of Microsoft’s decision to release the XML formats of Office 12:

“The commonwealth is very pleased with Microsoft’s progress in creating an open document format. If Microsoft follows through as planned, we are optimistic that Office Open XML will meet our new standards for acceptable open formats.” (ZDNet)

Massachusetts official Peter Quinn is now being investigated for possibly accepting a bribe to lead the state away from Microsoft to an open source format. (The Inquirer)
