Recent Google SEO Headlines – SEO Monday

Have you heard the latest SEO News? Let us get you up to speed.

Here we are heading into August, and we’ve yet to see a Penguin refresh since May 25th. I’m not sure what to make of it since it seemed that Google was refreshing Penguin regularly prior to this hiatus. Only time will tell what Google’s strategy is and like many in the SEO world we will be on the watch for Penguin 1.2.

In other headlines (as reported by Barry Schwartz over at seroundtable.com) it seems there was a Google PR update on August 2nd. The general consensus is that it is a positive update and most people are seeing increases in their PageRank.

Next, it seems that although Google Penguin has yet to make an appearance in the past few months, Panda was refreshed on Jul, 24th, 2012. As reported by SEO Moz:

“Rankings fluctuated for 5-6 days, although no single day was high enough to stand out. Google claimed ~1% of queries were impacted.”

For future reference SEO-Moz has a really well laid out timeline of every Google Update EVER here.

And finally while on the topic of SEOmoz, it seems they were the recipient of one of Google’s most recent unnatural link warnings. This was most likely a result of SEO Moz’s Rand Fishkin issuing a challenge to all SEOs to try and negatively affect his site with links. SEOmoz’s blog states that their inbound links went up 30% since issuing the challenge which is most likely what set off the warning. Furthermore, to date, SEOmoz has not seen a decrease in their rankings or traffic since receiving this notice. We will continue to monitor to see if this changes but like many that received this latest batch of notices, it seems that they are experiencing “business as usual.”
