Yahoo has acquired the social bookmarking service del.icio.us which uses a non-hierarchical keyword grouping system whereby users “tag” each of their Web bookmarks with a set of chosen keywords. From ClickZ:
Because del.icio.us allows users to bookmark and save content, which they tag with keywords, many believe the company has data that can help improve search results and ad targeting. But Yahoo! said it has no current plans to place ads on del.icio.us or use its data to target advertising. “We don’t really have any monetization plans at this time,” Tim Mayer, director of product management for Yahoo! Search, told ClickZ.
Analysts are already praising Yahoo for their new VoIP services. A recent Piper Jaffray report said:
The “aggressive pricing,” combined with Yahoo!’s existing users, “give the company a solid base upon which to start building a critical mass for this service,” stated the report. (MediaPost)
